North West Mining & Civil (NWMC) engaged by Monadelphous, executed the civil and earthworks for the Tom Price 11CM Conveyor project. Our comprehensive services encompassed all aspects of the excavation, concrete footings, and backfill required for the subsequent erection of structural steel by other contractors.

Project Scope and Execution
Our involvement entailed a diverse range of tasks:

Earthworks to establish a project laydown area.
Precise excavations for footings across 13 distinct locations within the facility.
Implementation of formwork and reinforcement, incorporating all cast-in elements.
Skilful pouring of structural concrete into footings, with the largest pour at approximately 80m3.
Methodical formwork removal and backfilling to achieve the finished ground level.
Precise excavation, installation, and backfilling of electrical conduits.
Meticulous excavation and backfilling for earthing purposes.
Strategic installation of bollards and windrows for the protection of newly established assets.
Expertly engineered roadworks to facilitate diversions around the newly constructed assets.
Precise grouting of baseplates following the erection of structural steel.

The project was executed efficiently over a span of approximately 4.5 months, demonstrating our commitment to timely delivery.

Navigating Challenges
Several challenges were confronted and resolved adeptly during the project’s progression:

Working within an operational mining process plant, necessitating close excavation proximity to existing assets. Our skilled operators effectively navigated the execution of required works.
Material shortages were effectively managed through meticulous scheduling and staged material processing.
Operating near active rail lines posed access limitations. We coordinated with train schedules and introduced a precast rail crossing, supplemented by isolation measures to ensure uninterrupted work.
